A Tragedy Results in the Beginning of a Firefighting Career
Ron Gebo began his career of helping those in need in 1974 when he became an ambulance driver in Los Angeles. But Ron had had no idea that his life would change one day when he responded to the needs of 3 burn victims in a tragic house fire down the street from where he lived. After treating the burn victims, a Battalion Chief of the LA County Fire on the scene asked him to join the Los Angeles Fire Department as a volunteer and he jumped at this opportunity and joined their department.
Born in Syracuse, New York, Ron has now been a volunteer for 28 years, 15 of these years were with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. During that time with Los Angeles, he received many awards and certificates. Among the recognitions was in 1985 a plaque from the City of Los Angeles in recognition of “giant humanitarian efforts assisting the people of Mexico City following its devastating earthquakes". In 1989 Ron was awarded “Volunteer of the Year" from the LA County Fire Department” and “Volunteer of the Year" from the LA County Public Safety Department.
