After moving to Valley Springs, a fire occurred down the street from Raymond’s house. Because of his career of installing fire sprinklers, Raymond sparked up a conversation with Fire fighter Clint Gleason and Captain Ron Gebo about the difference sprinklers could have made in preventing the house fire. This conversation peaked his interest in becoming a fire fighter himself one day.
No doubt adding to the interest in fire fighting was the fact that his father was a fire fighter in the Air Force. Born in Glendale, Arizona, Raymond spent his formative years on the Luke Air Force Base in Arizona. He later lived in California and went to Alameda High School in Alameda, California. Raymond is currently married and the proud grandfather of three grandchildren.
Raymond has been a Fire Fighter Volunteer for the Foothill Fire Department for one year and his goal for the department is to “have the backs of my firefighter co-workers and help our community”. Beside his interest in fire fighting, Raymond also enjoys being an amateur astronomer, flying radio controlled model air craft, baseball and fishing.
Considered by some in the fire department as the “hippy” of the department, Raymond thinks of himself as a complete family man who was raised by a “hippy” mother and father. The Foothill Fire Department is happy to have this “flower child” as a proud member of the staff of volunteers!
