Inheritance Brings Volunteer to Calaveras County

Don Clark moved to Calaveras County in 1999 from Carson City Nevada when his family inherited the “Double Springs Ranch” which has been in the family since 1849.

Don was born in Syracuse, New York in 1941 and attended New York schools. He began his fire fighting experience in New York in 1958 when he joined the Nedrow, New York Fire Department and remained there for 5 years. He later became a member of the Delphi Fall, New York Volunteer Fire Department for 1 year. After his relocation in Valley Springs, Don decided in 2007 to continue his career in fire fighting by joining the Foothill Fire Protection District.

Don is an avid collector of Vintage Fire Apparatus and enjoys going to Flea Markets.  Don is the Foothill Fire Districts apparatus supervisor.  Don’s expertise and knowledge to repair and service the fire apparatus and equipment has saved the District thousands of dollars in the past year and a half.

He states his motivation for choosing to be a volunteer as “Although limited by my age, I have chosen to dedicate time and effort to my community and neighbors in whatever capacity I am able. If my efforts result in helping one person or saving one piece of property, then I have succeeded.”

The Fire Department is proud of Don’s dedication and service and because of these attributes was selected to be this month’s “Meet your Volunteer”.
