Foothill Fire Protection District

"Commitment to Caring"

Mission Statement
The Foothill Fire Protection District will provide fire protection and any other services related to the protection of life and property, to advance a safe district and to maintain a high quality of fire safety to the residents of the unincorporated areas of Calaveras County, including Valley Springs, Burson, Wallace and Campo Seco.

Foothill Fire History
The Foothill Fire Protection District was established on July 1, 2000 under the direction of the Local Agency Formation Commission of the County of Calaveras, State of California, otherwise known as LAFCO. The initial Board of Directors, consisting of 5 members, was appointed by the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors. All future Foothill Fire Protection District Board members are elected by the citizens of the Foothill Fire Protection District.

The current Foothill Fire Protection Board
seeing the needs of the growing fire district, decided to embark on many changes for the future. One of the plans was to provide greater coverage of the 65 square mile fire district with a new fire station in Burson. Those plans were realized in November of 2007 with the opening of the Fire Station in Burson.
The Board is currently negotiating with community leaders on a possible site for a fire station in Wallace as well as discussions with the developer of the Ponte Ranch Project in Valley Springs for a proposed fire station site.

Currently, under the new leadership of
Fire Chief Michael Siligo
, there are 24 volunteers, 5 of them are Paramedic "Qualified", one Assistant Chief, one Battalion Chief, three Captains, 10 Class "B" drivers, 2 new staff vehicles,  a 50-foot ladder truck and one new rescue unit. With this staffing, Foothill Fire Protection District is able to respond with a Duty Officer to all emergency and non-emergency incidents within the  86.1 square miles of the fire district and outside fire agencies.

At the December 2007 Meeting, the Board was informed by the Fire Chief that an improved average of 5.1 fire personnel are now responding to all calls.  The board was also informed by the Fire Chief that the Foothill Fire Protection District has the third highest call volume in all of the Calaveras County Fire Districts.
